Dolan 5000 Running Races for the Whole Family

jessica lockeIt’s no surprise that I’m a huge fan of fitness, taking care of yourself, and finding exercises that you love. I co-run a blog on the topic of fitness for moms, teach fitness classes, coach my kiddos’ soccer team, and am working towards my black belt in mixed martial arts. Beyond just caring for myself and my personal health, my goal is to pass the love of health and fitness onto my four children.

This year, I’ve encouraged all of my children to participate in several racing activities….because everyone knows racing is fun!  First up on our summer list is one that is extra fun because it is a going to be a whole family event rather than just an event for the kids or the adults. The Dolan 5000 Running Series features three separate races throughout the spring/summer, each with varying distances available, and each with options for everyone in the family.

My husband and I are signed up for the first 5K race of the series, the River Run, on Sunday, April 29th starting at the downtown Reno arch.  Three of our children (our 6, 8, and 10 year olds) are running the kids’ 1 mile race.  (Additional distances offered include a 10K, half marathon, and a full marathon). This will be our kids’ first running race. They are definitely a little nervous, but are really looking forward to it, too.

This event is perfect for the whole family-young, old, walkers, joggers, fast runners, and spectators. Grab the whole family, register for the race (or the other two races of the series-the Mustache Run and the Bower’s Mansion Country Run), and head out for a fun family morning under the arch in downtown Reno! Hope to see you there! (And don’t forget to take pictures to share with us!)
