The Dolan Class Project Changed My Life

I am a twenty-seven-year-old woman learning to navigate the automotive world one day, more like one hour, at a time. As the Community Outreach Coordinator for Dolan Auto Group, I spend my days running, literally, back and forth between our four dealerships engaging with managers, customers, production crews, coworkers, our advertising agency, non-profit organizations, teachers and community members in need. To be honest, this is not what I had imagined I would be doing when I walked across the stage at my college graduation about six years ago. In fact, it is better!

I never thought of the auto industry when I pictured my future because it never crossed my mind that my skill set, complete with non-profit experience and a background in public relations, could be a good fit- let alone needed. I was wrong.

Unique to many auto groups around the nation, Dolan Auto Group loves to engage in community outreach and help meet the needs of those in Reno. Due to that fact, I have the privilege of utilizing the same skill set that I thought would be obsolete in the automotive realm to help people in our community every single day.

Each year Dolan participates in hundreds of partnerships, big and small, across the community. The partnership closest to my heart and the reason I was drawn to this company in the first place is the one we have with local schools. I consider myself lucky to work with a team of people who care about our youth and dedicate at least one large project each year to assisting them in their education.

The Dolan Class Upgrade Project, which originated in 2013, has morphed and evolved year after year to fit the needs of our schools and classrooms.

2018 will be no exception! This year we have decided to award 10 classrooms, in our community and surrounding areas, $2,500 dollars each based on the creativity, overall involvement and positive impact of their projects. Plus, the classroom that receives the most votes on Facebook from March 17-19, 2018 will receive $5,000 cash!

HOW WILL IT WORK?

  • Each participating classroom will create and execute a community outreach project of their choice. This can be however big or small the class decides.
  • Once the project has been executed the class will then need to gather the submission requirements and submit the project to me at [email protected] by March 14.
  • The 11 winning schools will be announced on March 21, Please find the criteria HERE.

We are inviting students to get in the community and give back along with us. It is an exciting time of year for me. As the submissions are about to flood in, I know that all over our area students are engaging in community outreach. They are challenging the social norm of putting themselves first and doing for others instead. This is powerful.

If you are a mom reading this, please contact your child’s teacher and invite them to participate. If you are a teacher, please join the movement. If you are passionate about Reno and the surrounding communities, stay tuned as an explosion of community involvement is about to erupt led by our youth.
