Our Day with Thomas

IMG_0050We were honored to represent Reno Moms Blog at the Day Out with Thomas in Virginia City on Sunday, October 22nd.  I thought we would just be taking our two year old, but my 15 year old step-son who grew up loving Thomas, couldn’t pass up the opportunity.  We were fortunate to have a beautiful fall morning and Virginia City is a wonderful setting to go visit Thomas.

We arrived and immediately went on the train.   Both of the boys had a great time on the train ride which lasts about 30 minutes.  This is a perfect amount of time for a toddler and gives parents a moment to relax too.  There was Thomas trivia and jokes and a cool tunnel that was lit up with blue and red lights that the boys both enjoyed.  The train was not overcrowded and the staff that helped were all friendly and made the experience easy.

After the train ride, there is an opportunity to get a picture with Sir Topham Hatt which all of the kids enjoyed.  There are so many activities to choose from after the ride including crafts, various booths with game for all ages, a handcar to ride electronic Thomas trains on tracks, and a huge sandbox.  The younger crew seemed to love the sandbox the most and kept returning to it after experiencing all of the Thomas activities.  As you head out after the fun, there is a gift shop with Thomas toys that I felt were reasonably priced.  My two year old is sitting in front of me right now playing with his new Thomas lego set.

The most magical part of the experience for me was watching my 15 year old step-son relive some of his own childhood memories through the eyes of his young brother.  He was patient with him and answered all of his questions.  He followed him all over as he checked out all of the various activities throughout the morning. We were impressed with the experience and would recommend that you check it out on October 27th, 28th or 29th.

Another bonus is that we were in Virginia City so after our Thomas experience, we went to a few candy shops and my husband finally bought that T-shirt he has always wanted form the Bucket of Blood saloon.  The extra perk of walking around Virginia City made this the perfect family outing.  It was wonderful to have Thomas visit us here in Northern Nevada!

You still have time to catch this train! The last train pulls out of the station on October 29! Get details and buy tickets here
