Eff Yeah! I’m a Mom!

Moms of the world.  You work so damn hard. Like working in a coal mine hard (and I would know because once upon a time, I did, in fact, work at a coal mine). You do things that no one knows about. You’ve seen things that might make a weaker man’s or woman’s stomach churn, but you know what? You handle it because….

Eff Yeah! You’re a Mom!

#effyeahimamomHere’s a few things that the world needs to know about you.

  • You coordinate, motivate, schlep your children to school 5 days a week with the precision of an army general. #effyeahimamom
  • You might get pooped on before you even leave the house. Like another human being may, literally, poop on you. #effyeahimamom
  • You pack those damn lunches. And you pack ’em good. #effyeahimamom
  • You get multiple kids into the appropriate car seat for their height, weight and temperament. Maybe it takes the moves of a WWE Superstar, but by God you make sure those kids are belted in. #effyeahimamom
  • You cook. Or you don’t. But somehow, someway, your kids are alive and thriving. Maybe that’s because of the copious amounts of organic veggies and kale and blueberry shakes you give them or maybe it’s because you own stock in Kraft and pay homage to a certain gold and blue box. Whatevs. #effyeahimamom
  • You love your kids. God, do you love them. You didn’t know you were capable of this kind of love.  Or this level of vulnerability. Or tenderness. #effyeahimamom
  • You make sacrifices without thinking about it. #effyeahimamom
  • You get to work every morning. Sometimes there are tears, sometimes tempers are lost, sometimes you have spit up on your shoulder or cheerios in your hair…but you get there and you work hard. You know why? Because being away from your kids every day? It has to be worth it. #effyeahimamom
  • Speaking of working…you bring home that bacon and you fry it up too. Because who doesn’t love bacon? #effyeahimamom
  • Playing ninja? Learning to braid? Teaching a boy to aim? Cleaning up puke or poop or spilled milk? You do it. #effyeahimamom
  • Laundry. That’s all I really need to say about that. #effyeahimamom
  • Oh and dishes. #effthose, oops, I mean, #effyeahimamom
  • Sleep? Sleep is for the weak. Or for non-mothers. #effyeahimamom
  • You make your house a home. #effyeahimamom
  • The family events/activity calendar? That’s you. #effyeahimamom
  • Peeing alone? It’s a luxury you don’t get. #effyeahimamom
  • Chicken nuggets? You can make those into a gourmet meal. Or gourmet-ish. #effyeahimamom

Certainly, I am not the only one who feels like an unsung hero so tell me your #effyeahimamom moments in the comments!

* This post was not sponsored by Kraft Mac ‘N Cheese, but hey Kraft I love you and we should get together. And eat mac ‘n cheese that I expertly prepare in the microwave. With a side of chicken nuggets.

Love love love this post! So fun and true! When I first became I realized it was easy to get down thinking about how much stuff I had to do! It could be overwhelming. Then when you realize you can handle ALL OF IT because you are freaking amazing, then it became empowering! On the days that you nail that plum cake breakfast, take happy kids to the park, and still arrive on time for your business meeting and win the deal? I can barely make it through the door with that chip on my shoulder! All the while I’m thinking: EFF YEAH I’M A MOM! Great reminder on how painfully awesome we are.

  2. Because I take care of my sick family even when I am sick myself.#EffyeahImamom
Because I can function on little sleep and Coffee is my god. #effyeahimamom
and it is all worth it because, they are only little for a while, and doing it fills my heart. #effyeahimamom

  3. I can smuggle bags of toys, stuffties and Happy Meal toys out of the kids’ rooms AND THEY DON’T EVEN NOTICE. #effyeahimamom

  4. Because I can heal most any wound with a kiss…even if my daughter bites her tongue. Oh yeah, I’ve also been asked to “kiss my butt”. Yeah, I did it.

  5. Ermagherd, one of my favorite posts EVAH! Love this. Love the “Sleep is for the weak” because you know why! 🙂

  6. I would like to add pooping alone to that list! My three year old walks in every time without fail and says, “Mommy, are you pooping?” “Yes, Avery, Mommy is pooping!” It’s cool, I’m used to it….

  7. Thanks for the smile on my first day back to work!

  8. I could scoop big spider off the back of a child, walk quickly through the living room, throw it out the door, without the child seeing it #effyeahimamom.
Because I watched said child give birth to her first son #effyeahimamom.
Because I managed to get all three children to adulthood without killing one of them or myself #effyeahimamom.

Because I wipe a snotty nose with my sleeve in the absence of a tissue #effyeahimamom
Because there are no sick days for a mom #effyeahimamom
Because I can bang out dinner in 30 minutes with a baby on my hip and toddler running wild #effyeahimamom
Because I put everyone’s laundry before mine, so my clothes always seem to be dirty #effyeahimamom
Because I’m so busy sometimes my meals consist of my toddlers leftovers effyeahimamom
Because I always seem to be carrying at least 20lbs of child #effyeahimamom (and I am getting those mom arms to prove it

    Love this post.

The boogers. Seriously. And toddler leftovers. I’m not above stealing a chicken nugget off the high chair.

  11. Because I have to learn it all on the fly even when the stakes seem sky high but I can make contemporaneous fart jokes#effyeahiamamom
Because I can work for social justice, raise a three year old, walk the dog, kiss the husband – all while building another human IN MY BODY-effyeahiamamom
