Reno Moms Blog Park Hop, April 26

Runt and his buddies love exploring new parks & Dana and I love the chance to catch up with each other.
Runt and his buddies love exploring new parks & Dana and I love the chance to catch up with each other.

My friend, Dana, has been one of  my closest friends for nearly three years now.  We met at our neighborhood park as our kiddos all played on the splash pad.  It took me nearly an hour to get past my nerves and say hello, but from there, the conversation seemed to come pretty easy.  I tried really hard to hide my giddiness when she asked me for my phone number before we parted ways that day. All this time later, I laugh at myself a little thinking of how nervous I was to just say hi.

Still, though, even with that great experience to look back on, I often find it awkward and uncomfortable to approach other moms while out and about with Runt.  And from the conversations that have recently taken place here in the Reno Moms Blog community, it seems I’m not the only one.  When I read through the comments in Meagan’s recent personal ad to fellow moms, I was a little stunned to see how many moms seems to be craving opportunities for play dates, meet ups, and mom chat, but haven’t yet found something that feels like the right fit for them.  Realizing there were so many moms feeling the same way as I have made me both feel a little less awkward and really determined to figure out a way to make this world of mommy friends feel more natural and easy on all of us.

That’s why I’m so excited to introduce the Reno Moms Blog Park Hop and invite all of you to join me for it each month.  On the 4th Saturday of each month, we’ll bring the Reno Moms Blog community together offline for a momma-kiddo meet up at a local park.  We’ll select a different park for each month’s get-together and hop our way around Reno/Sparks.  While the kiddos explore and play, moms can have a chance to meet other moms, chit chat, and maybe (hopefully!) even make some great new friends.

So, mark your calendars for the 4th Saturday of the month, keep an eye on the Reno Moms Blog Facebook page for details for each month’s meet up, and plan to join us for a laid back day of enjoying the sunshine, tiring out the kiddos, and chatting with other moms.  And don’t forget to share your thoughts with us for parks that would be great for our community to explore!

I hope to see a bunch of you on Saturday, April 26, and each month after that!  Who knows…three years from now, you just may end up telling the story about how you met one of your closest friends at the Reno Moms Blog Park Hop.  🙂

About Aramelle Wheeler

Aramelle Wheeler is midwestern girl at heart, hailing from Minnesota. Love brought Aramelle to the Reno area after she met a boy online. Nearly a decade later, she still claims to be “new to the area,” but has come to truly love the city that is now her home. She married that boy from the Internet, and together they are raising a spunky, rambunctious three-year old little boy, their miracle baby after a two year infertility fight. After more than two years as a stay-at-home-mom, Aramelle went back to work full-time shortly before her son’s third birthday. Working for a local non-profit organization, she loves her job but looks forward to a time when life can feel a little more balanced than the transition has. She often finds herself wondering whatever happened to the robot maids The Jetsons once promised us. Aramelle spends a lot of her free time with her camera in hand, clicking away snapshots of the life that’s unfolding around her, despite her son’s protests. She and her family enjoy exploring the Reno area in search of new, fun things to experience together. Aramelle loves to write and finds blogging at “One Wheeler’s World” to be a great therapeutic outlet. She also enjoys cooking, watches too much reality TV, and spends far too much time online. Follow along with her on Facebook and Twitter.
